Grades 1-3
(Grades 4-5 Coming Soon)
As a kid, I learnt the piano by reading notes, playing scales, classical pieces, and took the ABRSM graded exams, attaining a Diploma in piano performing and Grade 8 in music theory.
Learning how to read music notes was like learning an entire new language. It wasn’t easy but it allowed me learn and play challenging music pieces and improve my piano playing skills and appreciation of music.
Many years later, I discovered the fun in improvising, jamming and playing other genres of music like pop and jazz.
I then realized that learning music theory over the years paid off as it built a strong foundation for me to improvise, create more complex and sophisticated sounding chords that the pros use. This led me to fulfil my childhood dream of playing in a band and as a cocktail pianist in weddings.
For 15 years, I have taught private 1-to-1 piano lessons with many students of differing levels, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 8 classical piano and piano improvisation.
What I found was that a good knowledge of music theory enabled each of them to make consistent progress in their quest of mastering the piano.
So whether you are learning music theory in preparation for an exam, or to enhance your music instrument playing skills, I welcome you as you embark on this journey.
I hope you will enjoy this course as much as I did creating it!
